On June 29th, 2017, the Pennsylvania Department of Health awarded permits to 27 companies, allowing them to sell medical marijuana across the state beginning next year. The state’s sixty-seven counties were divided into six geographical regions which were designated anywhere between two and ten permits, depending on population.  The 27 companies will receive product from a set of 12 Grower-Processors, which are also distributed across the six regions.

In the most populous Region 1, ten permits were awarded to ten companies, allowing them to open stores in Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Montgomery, Philadelphia, and Schuylkill Counties. Each company may open as many as three stores as long as they were approved by the state, but may only have one store in each of the approved counties. Each company now has six months from the June 29, 2017, announcement date to open their stores and be ready to be operational starting next year.

We are Keystone Shops, proud to be one of the first recipients of a permit to open three unique stores in Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties. Keystone Shops is made up of a team of Pennsylvania natives with significant experience in the field of medical cannabis dispensing, and who are passionate about bringing medical marijuana to patients in Pennsylvania. Out of the 284 applications that were submitted in Pennsylvania, Keystone Shops received the eighth highest score.

About a month after the Department of Health awarded those 27 permits, the department launched its practitioner registry on July 28, allowing for physicians to register to recommend medical marijuana in Pennsylvania. Within just 10 days, over 100 physicians throughout the state had already signed up.

Over the next several months, we will be working hard to get our three locations up and running.   We expect to be ready to open early next year in early 2018. If you would like to be updated on our progress, please subscribe to our newsletter by entering your email address below.
