Regardless of how long cannabis has been around, how long people have been using it, and how much this industry has grown, the world of medical cannabis can still be completely foreign both to the public and new patients. Even for seemingly seasoned cannabis users, there can still be a lot of information to take in the first time you go to the dispensary, and when you hear things like sativas, indicas, hybrids, terpenes, and cannabinoids, it can feel like learning a whole new language. It’s okay to come in to the dispensary as a total novice, and we applaud you for taking that first step to trying and reaching out of your comfort zone. It’s pretty understandable if it all feels a little overwhelming and intimidating at first, but everyone in the dispensary is there to help guide you through it so you can get the best possible medicine and feel better again. These are some tips to help you have the most successful first visit with us as possible.

Thinking About Your Everyday Life

There are a number of reasons that people come in to purchase medical cannabis, and every product can create a different effect. Unlike other medicines though, cannabis contains THC, the chemical compound that creates the psychoactivity that cannabis is known for. However, not all of our products will create such a strong effect, if any. Remember what conditions it was that brought you into our dispensary in the first place, and what areas of your health you are trying to target. It’s important to consider then, how you want the product to make you feel. Think about if you do or don’t want to feel psychoactivity, when in the day you need to medicate, if you need the energy and a clear head, if you need it to help fall asleep, if you have to spend a lot of time working with others, and so on. Like any other medicine, medical marijuana should be making it easier for you to go about your daily life and treat your ailments, so try and consider what that means for you. With this information, the technicians are able to help guide you to the right product for you.

Get a Consultation

At the dispensary, there will always be either a pharmacist, a nurse practitioner, or another kind of medical professional on sight. Our medical professionals will have a greater understanding of your medical conditions and concerns, and for those taking pharmaceuticals, they’ll also have a better understanding of the right medical marijuana to coincide with your prescription medicine. Consultations are also great for cannabis newbies, and many find the consultation with our medical professionals to be reassuring when entering such a new market of treatment. You’re always welcome to ask as many questions and take your time during your consultation, the medical professionals are there to listen and help. Medical professionals are also familiar with our products, so before even meeting with a technician, they will often be able to make a recommendation that they believe will be right for you as well. After your first visit, you may continue to meet with the medical professional to discuss treatment outcomes, or you may opt to head right to the sales floor!

Ask Us Anything, Tell Us Everything

Our priority is our patients and our goal is to make sure you leave with something that will help you, so the more we know, the better we can suggest the best products for you. When you come in to the dispensary floor, it’s a one on one experience with the technician, so you’ll have our full and undivided attention. Don’t be afraid to ask or tell the technicians anything; there is no such thing as a bad question or too many questions, and since we follow the same HIPAA privacy rules as any other medical organization, so you can rest assured that anything we discuss together will remain confidential. Any information you can tell us, be it how you are feeling, what kind of reaction your hoping for with the cannabis, or even just telling us that you have no idea what to even look for is helpful information. We will take as much time with you as you need, and we can start from the ground up, go over every detail of our menu with you, and be with you through the entire process so that you feel confident and excited about the new products that you leave with.

Even though the world may seem abuzz with the growing possibilities of medical cannabis, it’s really okay to not know everything, or know anything for that matter, when you first come in. There is certainly a lot of information to take in, but you can leave explaining everything to us; just come with an open mind, ready to ask any questions you have and provide us with any information you think we may need. Everyone is here to help you because we care about all of our patient’s well-being, and we want to take the time to work with you to get you on your road to relief.

I am Katie and I am a technician at Keystone and I am very short and very concerned about the bee population. I love marijuana and anime and when I am not being productive and writing, my favorite thing in the world to do is enjoy some marijuana while watching anime and eating dessert in my room. I also love reading, writing, non-anime cartoons, crafting, occasionally leaving my apartment, aaaaaaand other things but if I kept listing them you would get bored. All feedback is appreciated but compliments are ESPECIALLY appreciated. Okay that’s it.
