Dispensary Employee Spotlight: Jared

jared, Devon Dispensary Technician

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I’m a 23-year-old medical marijuana dispensary technician at Keystone Shops. Some of my hobbies include writing music, playing my guitar, and working out. I’m just a music junkie in general.

What made you want to try medical marijuana?

This is a great question. So I had been self-medicating a few years prior because it always helped my stomach issues and anxiety. What really made me want to try medical marijuana was the concept of having a clean regulated program that created top quality products with top quality effects. It’s a good feeling not having to worry about where your marijuana comes from. It’s also a relieving feeling knowing that there’s a program set up to help people who can truly benefit from marijuana.

What do you take medical marijuana for?

I personally medicate to help treat my IBS and some of my back pain.

What products/strains/terpenes/cannabinoids/consumption methods have you found to be the most helpful for you when treating your condition?

When it comes to products I mainly stick with flower, concentrates, and vaporizer cartridges. I find these are the best products for fast-acting relief which is what I tend to look for to treat my IBS. Some strains that have stood out to me specifically have been Gelato, Jet Fuel, and Pineapple Express. My favorite terpenes I usually look for are myrcene, limonene, caryophyllene, and terpinolene. When it comes to pain relief and relaxation I always scope out strains with high concentrations of myrcene and caryophyllene. These terpenes really do a great job of fighting inflammation and lessening pain. When it comes to looking for something for more of a mood boost and energy boost, I tend to look for higher concentrations of terpinolene and limonene. It really gives you that extra kick in the morning, and can also help your creativity.

What would you tell patients who may have conditions or backgrounds similar to yours that are interested in trying medical marijuana for the first time?

The first thing I would say would be it’s always worth a shot to try. It’s not for everyone, but if you can pinpoint the medicine that works for you, it’s an incredibly beneficial program. The other thing I would tell patients is to forget the stigma they’ve heard about marijuana before. Marijuana has been looked at in such a negative light for such a long time, but now it’s considered medicine. There’s a reason for that. The positives outweigh the negatives. It’s life-changing medicine for many.

You’re a songwriter! Do you ever find that marijuana plays a role in the music that you write?

That’s an interesting question. I wouldn’t say it really helps me write lyrics, but it definitely helps me create rhythms, and feel beats. Sometimes I’ll just mess around on the guitar and play something that clicks, and from there it gets the ball rolling.

As a music lover in general, do you feel that marijuana influences your perception of music and what you like to listen to?

I absolutely feel like marijuana influences my perception of music and what I like to listen to. Marijuana really allows me to fully tap into a song and pull out all of the nuances. It really helps me listen to the layers of the song and try and wrap my head around the creative process. I tend to listen to songs that have more complicated beats and crisp vocals so I can really pick apart the different instruments and rhythms. That being said I listen to practically everything except for country.

If you were a marijuana strain, how would you describe yourself?

If I was a marijuana strain, I’d be something with an exotic look, with a great fresh smelling scent. The effects would be heavy and relaxing but still have mood-boosting qualities. So probably a well-balanced hybrid, but potent. Top terpenes would definitely be myrcene and limonene.

If you could be any superhero, who would you want to be and why?

I would probably say I’d like to be Superman. Sure it’s a basic answer, but he has it all. He has super strength and he can fly. It doesn’t hurt that he’s handsome. He’s practically invincible, doesn’t seem like the worst gig to me.
