Keystone Shops is excited to feature the Eagles Autism Challenge as our Keystone Kares for the month of April for the third year in a row! April is Autism Awareness Month, and as the first and only Center of Excellence for patients with Autism, we are enthusiastic about highlighting and supporting an organization with a mission so close to our hearts and a passion for supporting our local community.
Autism, or ASD (autism spectrum disorder) is a common yet complicated developmental disorder. According to the Center for Disease Control, about 1 in 59 individuals under 21 years of age are on the autism spectrum. The Eagles Autism Challenge aims to raise funds for different autism research programs throughout the greater Philadelphia area. As autism is a complex disorder and requires research and aid from a number of different healthcare providers, Eagles Autism Challenge formed a coalition with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Drexel University, and Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health.
The Eagles Autism Challenge is also an event day (though is currently postponed due to COVID-19). The event is a bike ride, 5k run/walk, sensory walk, and can be participated in virtually. Keystone Shops will be making our own team to participate in the activities, and as participants, 100% of the money we raise will be donated to autism research and programs. We are eager to participate in this event once it is back up and running!
